TV Shows

Season 3 only got 19.5 million viewers, which a bit lower to the season 2 stats.  It was shown in September 2006 until May 2007.

ABC tested the shows potential for Thursday audiences on February 9 and 16, 2006.  The series was aired at  9:30 pm, positioning Grey’s Anatomy against CBS’ Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) and Without a Trace, Fox Network’s The OC and NBC’s ER.  With a solid performance on those nights and with the repeat airings maintaining a strong second-place finish, the airing of Grey’s Anatomy was moved to Thursday in July 2006.

The show’s performance in its new timeslot is really amazing and it was even able to snatch the number one slot from CSI with a career-high 25.14 million viewers.

The ending of this season is the wedding of Dr. Cristina Yang to Dr. Preston Burke who started their relationship in season 2.  The wedding came to a sudden halt when the groom called it off.   The relationship of Meredith with Dr. Shephers was left unresolved.  The interns received their final test scores.  George O’Malley learned that he had failed while the other interns become residents.

Perhaps, the major factor why Grey’s Anatomy has become really popular is because a lot of people can relate to the story.  From the forbidden love tragedy of Meredith and Dr. Derek Shepherd, the love stories that did not end with a happy ending, the tragedies of various people who goes to hospitals, the pain of losing someone you love - all these are real life dramas that each of us experience even once in our lives.

However, in spite of these truths, the show still has some false representations of facts specially in the field of medicine.   The show is also widely criticized by various groups, many of them medical, for the innacurate presentation of medical situations and the exaggeration of the way which doctors and medical professionals relate to one another.   In defense, supporters of the show says that with too much medical realism, the show will lose its appeal.

CSI or Crime Scene Investigation Las Vegas was first aired in 2000.  The series evolves around the 6 members of the Las Vegas scientific police force headed by Gil Grissom.  The group is charged to discover the truth behind deaths and disappearances into which they inquire in collaboration with the city police.  To do this, they implement various techniques to track and discover the truth.

In the pilot episode of this multi-awarded television series, Holly Gribbs joined the CSI team.  It is also the time when Nick Stokes and Warrick Brown are on their 100th case in order to be promoted.

In this episode, Grissom is investigating on a possible fake suicide while Warrick and Catherine are investigating on the shooting of a man during a break-in.  Warrick is also assigned in shadowing Holly Gribbs during a routine fingerprint dust.  Nick, on the other hand, investigates a man robbed by a prostitute and also visits a scene of a car where the same woman passed out at the wheel of her car.

Watch this episode and see how a shoe lace can solve a case, and how your decision can affect someone else’s life.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 2 started in September 2005 until May 15 and 16, 2006.   It had a three-hour season finale spanning on both nights.  This season takes a lot longer than the first - with 27 episodes, 5 of which were carried over from season 1.

The focus of season 2 is on Meredith’s relationship with Dr. Derek Shepherd which stopped when Dr. Shepherd married Dr. Addison Montgomery.  Izzie Stevens also had a relationship with Alex Karev which did not last long because Izzie fell in love with heart patient, Denny Duquette.

Also in this season, Dr. Miranda Bailey becomes pregnant and more about Meredith’s tragedy is revealed.   Season 2 also ranked number 5 in the Nielsen Ranking with 19.9 million viewers.
